Support and Creativity: Victoria’s Journey Through K12 Private Academy

Online School Supports Victoria’s Drive & Creativity
When Victoria first enrolled in K12 Private Academy, she had no idea the impact it would have on her education, passions, and future career. What began as an alternative to nearby middle schools quickly turned into a supportive, flexible learning environment that she’s chosen to stick with all the way through high school. Now entering her senior year, Victoria is thriving academically, creatively, and professionally.
Getting Ahead with Online School
Victoria thrives in her online learning environment because of the ability to shape her schedule in a way that works for her. She isn’t locked into a rigid structure—she’s in control of how and when she learns.
“I like that it’s really flexible,” Victoria said, “I can focus more on math if I want to work on more math or I can focus on more of my art projects if I want to do that. Or I can do one of every class a day.”
This allows Victoria to not only dive deeper into subjects she enjoys but have more time for her creative passions.
“I really like the way that it’s set up. I’m able to learn more stuff,” she said.
She is also taking full advantage of K12’s college and career prep program. Through dual enrollment, she’s already earning college credit while still in high school. So far, Victoria has completed four college courses – US history I, Composition I&II, and Psychology – giving her a head start in whatever the future holds.
Career Experience: A Virtual Internship in Video Editing
One of Victoria’s standout experiences with K12 has been her Work-Based Learning internship—a program that helps students gain experience in fields they’re passionate about.
Victoria was able to do a Video Editing and Animation internship which involved working with Adobe Creative Cloud, a skill valuable to universities and employers.
“We were using Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects to edit the videos,” she said, “We were editing Zoom meetings, and I would have the videos in the giant folders that I downloaded. Then, I could learn how to use Premiere Pro to kind of transcribe the meetings and get rid of the spaces and stuff like that.”
This experience not only strengthened her editing but taught her essential skills to be successful in the real-world.
“I learned about… first off, the programs like Adobe and I learned about Google Sites so I can make my own online portfolio. And then I also learned about how you could communicate through a team while still working online,” Victoria said.
Exploring Passions Beyond the Classroom
Thanks to her personalized schedule, Victoria has the freedom to engage in extracurriculars like art and dance. She said she currently takes art classes at an art school nearby and dance classes as well, which the flexibility of online school makes easy.
“I really like being able to go to Visionary School of Arts because for most people it would be like right after school, but for me, I’m able to just take a shorter day on Thursdays and then do art…and then work more on Saturday or something like that,” Victoria said.
Looking Ahead: Dreams of Animation
Through her coursework and internship experience, Victoria has already decided her next steps—she wants to become an animator. By taking classes in animated and digital art, she was able to receive her Digital Media Certification through K12, giving her a boost in the animation industry already.
“I was taking digital art and they said that because I was taking some of those classes I could take this certification. I got an email from my art teacher and so I reviewed for it and I took the certification.”
She hopes to continue her education at Full Sail University, allowing her to pursue animation while staying close to home.
“I’m wanting to go to Full Sail…So I can stay in Florida rather than go into any of the other big places for animation like Canada or California,” Victoria said.
Advice to Future Students
For students and families considering online school, Victoria wants them to know it’s not isolating or disconnected—it’s just more flexible.
“I really like that it’s still a class because there’s still live classes and you can still talk with friends. I’ve been in some of the same classes of some of my friends at K12, and so it’s not like it’s just you. You still have teachers and it’s still a class but it’s more flexible than normal school.”
Her experience proves that with the right structure and support, online school can be just as enriching—if not more so—than traditional in-person education.
