Briana’s Comeback Through Academics, Leadership, and Tennis

When competitive tennis player Briana suffered a major injury during a pivotal junior tournament, her entire life shifted. What could have been a derailed year turned into one of growth, leadership, academic achievement, and rediscovered passion. During an important match that could have earned her a US Open wildcard, Briana fractured her fifth metatarsal and tore a ligament. The injury took her out of competition for months and required her to rethink her academic path. Briana shared, “Everybody [in NHS] provides their own ideas. They are not scared to share their ideas at all. It’s so fun.”

NHS also supported her passion for philanthropy. She has organized donation drives for Cuba, Jamaica, and Ghana, gathering medicines, bed sheets, clothes, toys, and school supplies for communities affected by hurricanes and health crises.

Returning to Tennis with a Renewed Perspective

After eight long months of recovery, Briana returned to full tennis training and tournament play in early 2025. During her break from tennis, she explored new interests and discovered a deeper sense of balance.

Now back on the court, she practices daily, competes in tournaments, and communicates with college coaches. She believes the setback made her stronger, more grounded, and more passionate about both tennis and her philanthropic work.

Flexibility That Supports Every Goal

Because Briana lives in Puerto Rico and often competes in different time zones, flexibility is essential. K12PA’s structure allows her to navigate her busy schedule without sacrificing academic quality.

Assignments do not follow rigid daily deadlines, allowing her to adjust coursework around tournaments, flights, and training.

Briana stated, “With K12, they make your time a lot more malleable.”

Big Dreams for College and Career

Looking ahead, Briana hopes to study engineering, IT, or data analytics. She has applied to more than twenty colleges, including MIT, Brandeis, and UVA. Her ultimate goal is to continue learning, expand her worldview, and maintain a strong foundation of curiosity.
